WMG, WTF?

Category: Thoughts - Tags: , ,

I’m sure most of you know about the recent scuffle between YouTube and Warner Music Group. WMG have been scouring YouTube for videos containing music on one of their many labels, whether it’s just full videos (I can understand that), samples, background music, or even cover versions. I mean… COME ON! Cut some people some slack.

Videos have cropped up all over YouTube protesting against this, ranging from simple “F*ck you Warner”, to educated arguments, to compilations of clips from songs on… Yup! You guessed it – Warner Music Group. They’re even taking down videos uploaded to the original artist’s YouTube channel. Metallica have replaced their videos with prompts saying “If you would like to actually SEE this video, HASSLE FREE go to Metallica.com”. That’s a bit much don’t ya think?

Anyway, I encourage anyone who cares to upload their protest videos now ;)

Not surprised, WMG want lots of monies and don’t agree with googles payment scheme for having their material up there. But… WMG are within the rights to do so, despite them being a shower of greedy c****

All in all, I’m not defending them and I think greed of such large cooperations will be their own downfall and I for one welcome it. Anyways, music nowadays is shite. lol

What about if the videos followed the guidelines for fair use?
